Application Requirements

We are seeking students with a proven track record of academic and professional success. To be considered for the MS Data Science program, please submit of the following to our online application:

  • Academic Transcripts
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, mathematics, statistics, or science is PREFERRED
      • Bachelor's degrees in other fields are welcome to apply, provided the applicant can demonstrate sufficient knowledge of statistics, linear algebra, calculus, and programming (Python).
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation
  • Personal Statement
  • Current Resume
  • International applicants must also submit the following:
    • English Language Test Scores
      • A minimum IELTS score of 7.0 or
      • A minimum TOEFL score of 80 on the internet based test (IBT) or
      • A minimum Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 69 or
      • Transcript Evaluation
      • Financial Statement for International Students Form (FSIS) accompanied by an original bank statement from your sponsor showing adequate funds. The bank statement must be in English, signed by a bank official and dated within six months of the intended term of admission at UNH.  Can be submitted at the time of applicant, but must be submitted prior to issuance of I-20AB or DS-2019. The Master of Science in Data Science is currently accepting applications for our August 2017 term.

Priority Deadlines:
  • March 1st, 2017
  • April 1st, 2017
  • May 1st, 2017
Candidates who submit complete applications by the dates above will be notified by UNH of a final admissions decision no later than 6 weeks after the deadline.
Please note that international applications have the following deadlines to allow for processing:
  • May 15th for the Fall term
  • October 15th for the Spring term
We will continue to accept applications until classes are full. Completed applications refer to applicants with all final official documents submitted to UNH by the application deadline.

Application Timeline

  1. Application Submission
    • Applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Please be sure your application contains all of the required material to avoid delays in the application process.
      • Please note application deadlines outlined above.
  2. Interview
    • Applicants may be invited to a technical interview conducted by faculty members - either over in-person or over video webcam. Applicants should be prepared to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
      • Matrix Arithmetic & Linear algebra skills
      • Statistics
      • Basic Probability theory & Bayes Law
      • Calculus
      • Python Skills
    • The interview can play an important role in ensuring that applicants have the appropriate technical background and/or experience to succeed in the program.
  3. Decision Notification
    • Completed applications are reviewed by the Academic Admissions Committee. Applicants will be notified by the University of New Haven of a final admissions decision.
